Retailers are increasingly utilizing "final sale" tactics to reduce merchandise overstock and minimize returns. The challenge of handling returns persists, with an estimated $211.76 billion worth of online purchases expected to be returned this year. As a result, more retailers, around 66%, are charging for returns compared to 60% in the previous year. Even Amazon, known for its free delivery and returns, now charges $1 for certain returns at UPS stores. However, making returns more difficult for shoppers may have adverse effects, as 87% of consumers consider free returns important, and it ranks as the second most significant factor influencing online purchases.
