Should Retailers Embrace ‘Keep It’ Return Policies?

goTRG’s 2023 holiday survey unveils a 26% rise from last year in ‘keep it’ or ‘returnless’ policies among retailers with 59% of retailers surveyed now adopting these strategies. This trend is common for low-cost items, where the return costs exceed the item’s value with 27% of retailers applying these policies to items under $20. This tactic aims to reduce costs while increasing customer loyalty and trust. Amazon notably pioneered the ‘returnless refund’ concept in 2017 for marketplace sellers to avoid costs of return shipping and processing on hard-to-resell items.
